The Daily Complaint: Wi-Fi Still Broken at Linden Chambers Community Room

Needham  - Monday March 8, 2021 -   The Wi-Fi at 5 Chambers Street is down.  One of the concerns facing elderly people, including the residents of public housing, is the problem of isolation and loneliness.  The pandemic just puts more stress on individuals who are alone.   We should be doing everything we can to assist residents with the technology needed to be included in the life of the community.

The Center At The Heights has provided a few Amazon Fire Tablets for residents.   The idea is to keep the elderly engaged, which is a significant concern at the Needham Housing Authority (NHA) according to the Health report from January 2020.This is a link to "An Assessment of Neeham Housing Authority Residents."

I would be willing to bet that if you, or anyone now reading The Linden Letter, lost their Internet connection, you would be on the phone, immediately, to Comcast or Verizon to get things back in operation.  It would be an emergency.  And so, The Linden Letter offers this - the first in our regular column:  "The Daily Complaint."

At a recent Needham League of Women Voters (LWV) Meeting, we see that "Boomers are Zoomers"

The Wi-Fi has been down for two weeks now.  I don't want to see a repeat of this same old story of when it was down for 12 months.  Looking back that was a deep insult.  Not fixing something that can be easily fixed becomes a deliberate act of withholding and interfering with the Residents capacity to communicate, to attend workshops and online conferences, especially since many Tenants do not have a personal facility, whereas they can and do attend Community Zoom meetings.
